Wirral or the Wirral is a peninsula in northwest England. It is bounded to the west by the River Dee, forming a boundary with Wales, to the east by the River Mersey, and to the north by the Irish Sea.

In 1825 a plan for a modern new town was produced, with a gridiron pattern of streets, a range of fine late Georgian buildings and the imposing Hamilton Square.
Port Sunlight Village, itself, was the vision of the Victorian, William Hesketh Lever. Architect designed housing, gardens and green spaces was a pioneer in the Garden City Movement and is now of international standing.
